Computers And How They Have Changed Us

Everything we do on a daily basis has been altered by computers. Considering that computer have not been around for all that long, it is astounding to see the effects they have had on our society. It is easy to forget that not too long ago, many heads of businesses did not believe that computers would ever make their way into the mainstream. They couldn’t have been more wrong.

As if it was not sufficient to own one computer, so many people nowadays own a few of them. Even though they do the same thing, we think we need a desktop computer, a laptop computer, and a bunch of little computers in our phones and music players. It is amazing to see the difference in just a few years in our attitudes toward computers. From doubting their use to embracing them as useful and necessary.

Now that everybody has their desktops and laptops, and we are all able to access the internet anytime we want to, our world has converted into a virtual playground. We can now connect with our foreign neighbors in a matter of seconds, regardless of how far away they are from us. It’s as if we no longer have borders in this highly digital world of ours.

In the beginning, we had to sit down at our desktop computers to get online. While they were indeed able to connect to the internet and gain access to whatever we wanted, it was kind of a nuisance to be tied to that desk for our time spent on the computer. The benefits of desktops for businesses and home offices are undeniable, and you get a lot of capability for the money spent. It is also simpler to upgrade their parts.

But when people needed to be connected while traveling, the need for laptops really became apparent. The nature of many businesses is the ability to communicate with people no matter where you are. Laptops have become so convenient because we can now take our work with us anywhere. With wireless connectivity in many public places, including airports and airplanes, we have the ability to pull out a laptop and do business or pleasure whenever we want.

As laptop computers became the favored alternative for going portable, it became desirable to go more mobile with computers. Laptops became smaller and eventually kind of spawned PDA’s. Although they don’t resemble laptops or desktops, and don’t have their computing power either, they are making good strides.

Computing devices have evolved even more to the point where we demand consolidation. We want all our devices merged into one. These consolidated devices, smartphones, can do basically everything a laptop can to except contain a big physical keyboard on them. They are mobile and much more fun to use than larger computers, so their demand has really taken off.

It is interesting to be able to see these technology advances as they unfold before our eyes. These days, if you do not own the latest gadgets, you are considered behind the curve. But the problem is that no matter how fast you adopt new technologies, there will always be something better coming out in the near future, making your gadgets seem old and obsolete.
